Outdoor Learning: Connecting with Nature

Outdoor learning is an integral part of our curriculum, providing children with opportunities to develop holistically through meaningful experiences in a natural woodland environment. We are fortunate to have our own dedicated Outdoor Classroom, located a short walk from the school. To safeguard this valuable resource for future generations, the site has been placed in a Charitable Trust, helping to protect its continued use by Fingringhoe pupils for many years to come.

Through regular visits, children develop a meaningful connection with the natural world, fostering curiosity, confidence and a lasting appreciation for the environment. We believe these experiences contribute positively to children’s physical and mental health and wellbeing, while nurturing a sense of responsibility for the world around them and inspiring them to become future stewards of our planet.

The Outdoor Classroom provides a rich environment in which children can explore, investigate, create and learn through practical experiences and play. Wherever possible, outdoor learning complements and enriches classroom-based learning, enabling children to apply their knowledge in real-world contexts. Alongside developing skills such as den building, tool use, problem-solving and collaboration, children have the freedom to take appropriate risks, embrace challenges and, of course, enjoy the simple pleasures of getting muddy and having fun!
