Governors

A welcome from our Chair

What a pleasure  and privilege to join the Governing Board at Fingringhoe CofE Primary School.

As an experienced parent, grandparent, teacher, headteacher, governor, inspector and safeguarding officer, I am delighted to join and get to know this thriving community. I very much enjoyed my tour of the school last week, appreciating the learning and care in constant evidence and the dedication and commitment of the staff. Those warm relationships between children and staff are so vital for effective learning. It’s a challenging world to bring up children and it must be reassuring to know that your children are in such safe hands in such a positive environment. I know there are challenges as there are in any school, but a strong community goes a long way to working through these and the school is clearly committed to doing its best. I am delighted to be part of it, appointed by the Diocesan Board of Education, sharing the Chair role with our school’s established and experienced local authority governor, Leanne Theobald.

Best regards,

Jenny Burrett   Leanne Theobald

Want to make a difference? Become a school governor.

School governors have a varied and important role. They help the school to run effectively and have three main areas of responsibility:

  • Planning the strategic direction of the school
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and ensuring money is well spent
  • Holding the Headteacher and school leadership to account

The governor role is strategic rather than operational. This means that governors don’t get involved with the day to day running of the school, but instead they support and challenge the school’s leadership team to drive school improvement. They ensure strategy, policy, budgeting, and staffing are all organised in the best way possible to ensure smooth and effective running of the school.

Our governing board is made up of a diverse group of people who bring a wide range of skills and expertise from their own lives (whether within education or beyond). They then use those skills to benefit the school.

At Fingringhoe, governors attend around three meetings a year (once per term). Being a school governor is a commitment and a responsibility, but offers you the chance to see first-hand the impact you can make in improving education for the children in our community.

Governing Board Diversity Declaration

The school’s governing board believe it’s incredibly important to be representative of the school community. Decisions and direction taken by the governing board need to reflect the needs of all pupils and provide the best possible, equal opportunities for children, regardless of background or circumstance. Our board is predominantly made up from parents and staff from the local community which ensures fair representation of the children and families we serve. Due to the small number of governors, we have chosen not to disclose diversity data information as it is likely to be personally identifiable.
